About
Seven Istheman is a world-renowned recording engineer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and visionary behind some of the most iconic sounds in music.
A pioneer who began his journey at the age of seven with a splicing block and razor blade under the guidance of his father (a professional sound engineer), Seven built his first home studio by age twelve. After high school, he launched a remarkable professional career at New York’s elite studios, including the prestigious MediaSound (home to Aerosmith, Grateful Dead, Peter Frampton, Luther Vandross, and Lena Horne) and the legendary Record Plant NYC (where John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Meat Loaf, Ozzy Osbourne, KISS, and Miles Davis recorded).
As an independent engineer and producer, Seven has worked at an extraordinary list of world-class facilities including The Hit Factory, Electric Lady, Sound on Sound, RPM Studios, Power Play, Record Plant NYC and many others. He later served as Chief Engineer at Long Island’s state-of-the-art Music Palace Recording Studio (designed by renowned acoustician Tom Hidley).
Seven has recorded, perfomed on or mixed music for artists including Public Enemy, Ice Cube, Busta Rhymes, Patti LaBelle, Jill Scott, Vanessa Williams, Loris Holland, U-God (Wu-Tang Clan), Joan Jett, and many more.
With decades of experience across virtually every genre, Seven has engineered and/or produced landmark albums such as Public Enemy’s Fear of a Black Planet and Ice Cube’s AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted, along with projects for Leaders of the New School, Latoya Jackson, Jeff Joseph (Grammacks), Virgin Steele, and countless others. Known for his golden ears, technical mastery, and creative vision, he consistently delivers powerful, emotionally charged recordings with massive sonic impact.
In addition to his studio legacy, Seven is a highly skilled multi-instrumentalist (drums, drum programmer, guitar, bass, keyboards), composer, and the co-founder of the rock band Seven. He is also the author of the critically acclaimed autobiography “Exile In Rosedale – The Musical Life of Seven: 1963-2009”.
Today, Seven continues to push boundaries — producing, engineering, and mixing his own rock project Seven, including the powerful new singles “Scars,” “The Siren’s Call,” and “I Like It Like That” from the upcoming debut album The End Of The World. His unique combination of old-school analog soul, cutting-edge technique, and raw artistic passion makes him one of the most respected and versatile figures in the music industry and music history.
